Energy harvesting can solve a multitude of problems, from inconvenient battery recharging and replacement in hearing aids to diminishing climate change through the harnessing of heat during production processes (approximately 290, 000 petajoules of energy, of the 534, 000 petajoules the world produces, is wasted). Peltier tiles are thermoelectric devices which convert heat flux into electric current by placing a semiconductor in a temperature gradient. By using Peltier tiles to harness heat energy, we could diminish the approximate 5175 million hearing aid batteries that end up in landfills every year and alleviate the effects of global warming.
